Cairns y la Gran Barrera de Coral
Sabíamos que cualquier destino sería completamente distinto al sudeste asiático, pero Australia?... madre mía!
Fantásticas piscinas al lado del mar
Llegamos a Cairns y fue solo salir del aeropuerto que notamos la diferencia. En especial por el verde, a donde miráramos había árboles y pájaros de ruidos extraños cantando... más adelante los conoceríamos.
Loritooo!
La ciudad es grande, con casas con mucho espacio y bajas, de máximo 3 pisos. Algunos de los negocios tenian carteles estilo western gringo, muy divertidos de ver y eso sí, mucho calor. Al ir a comer nos dimos cuenta lo caro que es Australia, un menu normal de McDonalds cuesta unos 10$ y de ahí para arriba. Después de comer fuimos a dar un paseito por la playa... pero dónde está el agua???... Estaba bastante seco para lo que pensabamos de Australia, pero así es Cairns.

Aunque el paseo de Cairns es bonito, aún sin agua, agradecimos tener la campervan al día siguiente e ir a nuestra bola. Una campervan blanca con flores lilas y letreros que anunciaban a viva voz: Hippie Camper!
Aussievan
Vaya nervios, meses sin conducir y además, por la izquierda. Decidimos hacer ruta por el norte de Cairns, hacia Port Douglas. Por el camino podíamos ir viendo todos los "pueblitos" de Australia, una belleza de casas y las playas ya tenían agua y cada vez más turquezas. Pero nos entretuvimos tanto que tuvimos que hacer noche antes de llegar. Así que primer Rest Area, de muchos, para pasar la noche, en medio del bosque, rodeados de árboles enormes y ruidos extraños de cosas que se movían por ahí... Qué es ESO?!?!... No sé, pero métete al coche YA!!!... algo pasó caminando por ahí y lo peor es que aún no sabemos que fue... es que para animales raros, Australia campeona mundial.
Cacatúa!
Al día siguiente amanecimos con un poco de frío, algo que ya ni sabíamos lo que era... que rico!!! Al final llegamos a Port Douglas, un pueblito de puerto hecho para turistas, pero que bonito!!! Con una pequeña capillita al lado del puerto donde la gente pasaba el rato pescando o conversando. Habíamos decidido ir más lejos, hacia Cape Tribulation, pero un ferry nos anuló las ganas, así que para Cairns y hacer submarinismo!
Más playa
Una noche más de intermedio y volvímos a Cairns con billetes para el tour ya comprados. Al subir al yate te das cuenta la organización y calidad del tour, se habrán dado cuenta que he dicho yate y no barco no? Pues así fue nuestro tour. Después de haber pagado el tour, las inmersiones son prácticamente un "regalo"... palabra clave: prácticamente, que aquí nada es gratis. Después de darnos una pequeña explicación de las inmersiones nos dieron unos preciosos trajes azul, parecíamos pitufos desnudos, en fin, todo sea por la gran barrera de coral. El agua estuvo fría y pudimos ver muchas cosas, pero lo que más vimos fue el triste estado en el que se encontraban los corales. Si bien había muchos bonitos, varios de ellos estaban muertos, y lo peor de todo es que seguimos siendo nosotros los mayores culpables.
Bajando
En fin, en la segunda inmersión fuimos solos por primera vez en nuestra vida submarina y conocímos la innata habilidad de Ana para reconocer la ruta, una crack! Pero la tercera fue quizás la mejor, conocímos a Wally:

Es super amigable y le encantan los mimos, era increíble ver como se dejaba abrazar y acariciar, y de vuelta para otra tanda de abrazos 
Pero, lamentablemente, así también terminaban nuestras inmersiones, eso sí, con una copita de vino y queso.

Ahora sí podíamos continuar bajando y seguir nuestra ruta "hippie". Por supuesto, les dejamos nuestra colección de fotos de esta zona.
